When Anthony Mutua arrived at Project Canaan in October 2009, it was nothing more than bush land. Fresh from Kenya, and without formal qualifications, he joined the team as a farm worker. Armed with a machete and a dream, Anthony helped carve fields out of wilderness, clearing land by hand and slowly transforming a vision into a thriving mission.
“We had to go house by house in the community, explaining what Project Canaan was and inviting people to work with us,” he recalls.
But Anthony’s story didn’t stop in the fields.
Driven by a desire to care for others, he asked the founders for a chance to study nursing. They believed in him. He studied while working weekends at the farm, eventually earning his degree. Today, he serves as both the Healthcare Manager and Hunger Initiative Manager at Project Canaan.
Serving 400 Children and Thousands More
In his dual role, Anthony oversees medical care for over 400 children and staff, coordinates referrals to external hospitals, and leads a feeding program that reaches 4,500 children through 31 partner churches.
“Some patients come not just with illness, but with deep emotional pain,” he says. “I listen. I treat. I follow up. And when they return smiling—it’s everything.”

A Heart Full of Compassion
Anthony’s work is more than a job—it’s a calling. From comforting sick children to empowering pastors in rural communities, his passion shines through.
His dream? Better support for medical emergencies, and more healthcare professionals visiting Project Canaan to train local staff.
“When specialists come, they don’t just treat—they teach us. Their impact lasts far beyond their visit,” he explains.

A Life Rewritten
Anthony is now married to his childhood sweetheart. They wed at the Project Canaan amphitheater and are raising a vibrant 3-year-old son named Aziel—meaning “God is my strength.”
“I didn’t think I’d leave Kenya. I thought I’d serve locally. But God had bigger plans,” he reflects. “Today, I get to serve His children in ways I never imagined.”
