Long-Term missionary opportunities

One of the goals at Project Canaan is to provide employment for local Swazi’s and help them get out of poverty.  In addition to employing 300+ Swazi’s there is also a need for long-term missionary help in specific capacities.

We are looking for people who can commit to volunteering for one year or more to the roles and are prepared to raise their own financial support to come and serve. Volunteer Position Descriptions and requirements

Heart for Africa is looking for a volunteer nurse (RN) to live on Project Canaan (PC) children’s campus and provide care to our almost 400 children calling PC home. Ideally the nurse would have at BSN and at least two years of pediatric clinical experience. See below for list of expectations and responsibilities:

– Assessing, diagnosing and treating within protocols

– Developing quality assurance tools

– Providing preventative care including vaccines and well child checks

– Collecting samples for lab tests and performing POC testing

– Assimilating within a different culture and lanquage

– Coordinating with local partners

– Imparting faith-based, evaluative care decisions

– Willingness to participate in a developing world medical environment and all the challenges therein

– Documenting and electronic charting across multiple digital systems

– Providing excellence in healthcare, while exuding compassion and adding a bit of humor

The job of the Spiritual Life Director is to develop and implement discipleship for the kids and adults of Project Canaan.  Helping the kids and adults develop Biblical worldview, love God an others, and serve him according to their giftings.

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Pastor to join Project Canaan as a spiritual leader and mentor to the children and adults in our care. The Pastor will be responsible for providing spiritual guidance, pastoral care, and organizing discipleship activities. This role requires a deep commitment to God and serving others, strong leadership skills, and the ability to foster a nurturing and supportive environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Spiritual Leadership: Serve as the primary spiritual leader within the kids home, providing guidance, counseling, and pastoral care to the children, staff, and volunteers. Promote a culture of compassion, empathy, and faith within the community.
  • Worship Services: Plan and lead regular worship services, incorporating age-appropriate teachings and activities for the children and adults. Create an atmosphere of worship and facilitate opportunities for the children to develop their spiritual lives.
  • Biblical Teaching: Develop and implement age-appropriate Bible study programs and discipleship opportunities for the children and adults. Teach biblical principles, values, and morals in a way that is relatable and understandable to the children.
  • Pastoral Care: Offer emotional support and counseling to children and adults who may be experiencing trauma, grief, or other challenging situations. Provide a safe space for people to share their thoughts, fears, and aspirations while offering comfort and guidance.
  • Mentoring and Guidance: Establish meaningful relationships with the children and serve as a positive role model. Help them develop a sense of purpose, self-worth, and faith through mentorship, one-on-one interactions, and group activities.
  • Collaboration and Training: Collaborate with other staff members to ensure holistic care, coordinating efforts to address their physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. Conduct training sessions for staff and volunteers to enhance their understanding of faith-based practices and principles.
  • Community Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with local churches, faith-based organizations, and community leaders to foster partnerships, sponsorships, and support for the orphanage. Actively participate in community events and initiatives to raise awareness and promote the mission of Project Canaan.
  • Administration: Implement and oversee the development of all the spiritual life programs and the spiritual life department.   Train and develop leaders who will engage and help the children grow spiritually. Participate in the overall development of Project Canaan. 

Qualifications:

– Ordained pastor with a recognized theological degree or equivalent qualification.

– Strong faith and a personal commitment to Christ-centered ministry.

– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with children from diverse backgrounds.

– Compassion, empathy, and a genuine love for children.

– Experience in pastoral care, counseling, and leading worship services.

– Knowledge of child development and trauma-informed care is desirable.

– Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and build positive relationships with staff, volunteers, and community members.

– Sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity.

– Adherence to ethical guidelines and a high level of personal integrity.
